Kings Extend Bernier

The Los Angeles Kings have rewarded the hard work of Jonathan Bernier, who had won the role of back-up goalie for the upcoming season, with a new 2-year contract extension on Monday. Bernier, who is entering the last year of his entry-level deal, has had some real success with the Kings farm team in Manchester and with this appointment to the opening night roster, he is now taking real strides into becoming the full-time starting goaltender of the Kings.

The new 2-year extension has been reported to be worth $2.5 million over the duration, which works out to be a $1.25 million cap hit per season.

Bernier has seen some NHL games already in his career, winning 3 games (and registered a shutout) in 2010 with the Kings and has had a pretty good preseason leading up to his new position.  He should be a good fixture in the Kings organization for a while to come.
