Fringe Deal Between the Habs and Canucks

2015 2016
To Vancouver POS Age G/W P Cap
Brandon Prust F 31 4 18 $2.5 mil
--------------
To Montreal POS Age G/W P Cap
Zack Kassian F 24 10 16 $1.75 mil
2016 5th Round Draft Pick

In maybe more of a fringe trade, the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks swapped abrasive talent on Wednesday, as the Habs acquired long-time rumoured to be traded Zack Kassian from the Canucks and sending journeyman rough & tumble guy, Brandon Prust, in the other direction.

Neither really had decent seasons in 2015, neither were pool worthy, but there is some expectation that Kassian really should be, according to his potential, but we'll have to wait and see if that actually materializes.

Both are going to get slightly higher projections from their numbers from last season, Kassian still having the larger upside, going to a good skating team like the Canadiens.  His overall physical ability will be the tipping point of a good/bad season.

If the Canucks can turn Derek Dorsett into a 25-point guy, there is still a chance for Prust to become somewhat like a hockey pool scoring forward, even if it is in the deeper depths of the draft.
