The Boston Bruins definitely got what they wanted out of the deal, where they acquired Jimmy Hayes for Reilly Smith... a lower cap hit for the same kind of player.
On Monday, Hayes signed a new 3-year deal, worth $2.3 million per season, a savings of $1.1 million (or so) and they should be able to get roughly the same amount of production. It looks like a sneaky little move by the new management team in Boston, something that needed to happen for their budget to work out in their favour.
In the 2015 season, Hayes scored 19 goals and 35 points for the Florida Panthers, which ranked him 224th overall in pool scoring and with so much shuffling in Boston, there is some real potential for an upside on his numbers.
With all the shuffling that has been done, there is a potential brewing up on paper, between some of the new faces on the team and where they are going to fit in and what that will mean for the Bruins offense.
Matt Beleskey and Hayes will be moving into some top six spots, but sophomore winger David Pastrnak may have something to say about that as well. Nothing is certain, but the Bruins will be looking for goals and they have a few players that appear to be ready to put the biscuit in the basket. Given the right circumstances, all three players could have some gains in their projections this Fall.
