Ducks & Habs Minor Swap

On Saturday afternoon, the Anaheim Ducks acquired former 1st round draft pick (2009, 18th overall) Louis Leblanc from the Montreal Canadiens for a conditional draft pick in this year's draft.

The 23-year old forward has played in 50 career NHL games, most of which were played in the 2012 season with the Habs, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in the process, all in the 2012 season.  In 2014, Leblanc had two call-ups, playing in eight games and failing to register a point.

Leblanc was a celebrated pick with the Canadiens, being a French-Canadian kid, but he never really broke through the depth in the organization and didn't play much at all with the club, since being drafted.

Anaheim has now paid the price to negotiate with Leblanc, who finished his entry-level deal this past season.  Leblanc is a restricted free agent on July 1st, so I would imagine that the conditional pick will be based on games played, rather than whether or not he signs with the Ducks.

The Ducks do not lack much depth up in the forward position, but they are likely looking to move a piece or two in this off-season, which may mean Leblanc could find a spot before too long.
