Second Round Has Begun

Well, we don't need the flashing light today to let you know who scored the winner of the only game of the night. Sami Salo of the Canucks scored with 1:13 to go in the third period to help lift the Canucks to a Game 1 win in their second round series against the Blackhawks.

Salo was one of five players in the pool to pick up 2 points in the game. Steve Bernier (Box 7) had 2 assists, Roberto Luongo (Box 12) had the win, Duncan Keith (Box 9) had 2 assists and Patrick Kane (Box 2) had a pair of goals. Otherwise, there were plenty of other points to go around in the 5-3 win for the Canucks. If you picked both teams correctly to make it to this round, you should have picked up some points at least.

The only news worth reporting was the return of both Mats Sundin and Sami Salo to the line-up. Sundin missed Games 3 & 4 of the Blues series with a lower body injury, while Salo only missed Game 4, also with a lower body injury. The extended time off between series was very important to the two veterans, as they are both pretty popular in the sheet as well.

Tonight's Games

Two more series get underway in the second round tonight as the Ducks and Red Wings have a date on CBC tonight, starting at 5pm MT. Getting started on TSN at 5:30pm MT, the Hurricanes and Bruins start their Eastern Conference semi-final match-up. I think we can all be pleased that there is a half hour staggered start to these two matches, as we can flip over to one game when the other is in the intermission.
