It sounds as though the injury parade route has settled nicely in Pittsburgh, as the team is losing top quality pieces on a regular basis over the next couple of weeks. Pascal Dupuis' blood clot, Kristopher Letang now on the IR with a groin problem and now Chris Kunitz is expected to be on the shelf for a couple of weeks with a fractured bone in his foot.
Kunitz was a late scratch on Tuesday night, somewhat unexpected from the afternoon news about his teammate Letang extending his stay on the shelf. The 35-year old forward had an MRI done in the morning on his foot and the results obviously came in, just before game time, so hence the late scratch. The team believes that he will be on the shelf for a couple of weeks, possibly sooner, given medical clearance and his own pain tolerance.
In the 2015 season to date, Kunitz has been good for the Penguins, picking up 9 goals and 11 assists through 23 games, which has him ranked 57th overall in pool scoring after Tuesday night.
Already, he has been somewhat of a bargain pick for Tony, who picked him up in the 4th round of the draft, 83rd overall. I'm sure he will be hoping that he doesn't fall too much int he rankings.
Tony is only 9 points back of the money spots this year and Kunitz has been one of his best players, ranking 4th on the team in scoring and accounting for 10% of his team's points. This is a pretty good hit to his team, especially if the injury was to linger.
