Some quick notes on Saturday morning, as games are starting early in the day...
Sidney Crosby has been ruled out for the weekend's games due to an illness and that included Friday night's game against the visiting Flames. The Penguins star has been good this year, but not necessarily at his best, ranking 10th overall in pool scoring with 9 goals and 26 assists in 27 games. The Penguins are in Columbus on Saturday evening and this should be the last game without their captain, if everything goes well.
Crosby was the 1st overall pick in this year's draft by Stuart, who currently sits in 10th, now 21 points out of the money. Stuart needs his best player to be healthy to work his way up the standings, so this might work out to be a long weekend without him.
In what would normally get its own post, a broken finger has sidelined Columbus forward Scott Hartnell for an indefinite period of time. Hartnell was placed on the Injured Reserve on Friday and I would have to imagine that he'll be out of the line-up for a couple weeks at the very least.
In 28 games this season, Hartnell has picked up 6 goals and 11 assists for Columbus, which has been okay for Dale B., but the injury will halt any sort of momentum he was finding. Dale opens up Saturday night in 14th place, 11 points out of the top 10.
It sounds like injury prone Stephen Weiss is going to be on the shelf for a little while again, this time due to a shoulder injury. Weiss has been a part of the list since 2008 and started the year on the IR and we remain to see whether or not he'll go back to the IR with his new injury. When he has been healthy, Weiss has been good, scoring 4 goals and 6 assists in 11 games for the Red Wings.
His scoring record made him into a Waiver Draft pick-up for Benson last week, but Benson's luck has been exceptionally poor and this is just another example of that poor luck. Benson is just trying to fight his way out of the basement, which he now sits 7 points out of going into Saturday.
