Believe it or not, Matt Cooke actually does put up some okay numbers, which would merit him some consideration for a deep hockey pool, like the one ran here, so his buyout process does get noted here. The only thing that really stops Cooke from being a hockey pool regular is his own reputation, so take this for what it is.
It was not a good campaign, health-wise for Cooke in 2015, as he missed long stretches with injury and his season was only 29 games long, where he scored 4 goals and 10 points, scoring at .345 points per game.
Cooke was set to make $3 million in salary and was a cap hit of $2.5 million for his last season on his current deal. The buyout, although not official yet, should be in the range of $500,000 in the 2016 season and $1 million in the 2017 season, thanks to the War on Ice buyout calculator.
With Cooke's potential buyout cap hit in tow, I now have the Wild in at 15 players signed on and a buyout in at $58.6 million, already over the cap floor and $12.8 million away from the ceiling. That's pretty good shape, considering they still have to re-sign Devan Dubnyk and then decide what to do with Niklas Backstrom.
