Soderberg Signs

The Colorado Avalanche wasted no time getting the deal done with newly-acquired forward Carl Soderberg, as they signed him to a 5-year deal, worth $23.75 million.  This works out to be a $4.75 million cap hit per season, over the course of the contract.

As it was highlighted in last night's trade post, Soderberg was good for 13 goals and 44 points in all 82 games for the Bruins, which had him ranked 153rd overall in pool scoring and 105th among all forwards, ensuring his spot in next season's hockey pool draft.

The Avalanche had reportedly given up contract extension talk with centre Ryan O'Reilly, so they aggressively tried to make a move to fill the gap, which is expected to be left behind, when the Avs move O'Reilly, likely in the next few days.  Soderberg will be looked upon to fill that gap, taking on the second line centre role with the team.

There is something left to be desired out of this potential swap of talent, but that something could be identified in the deal that sees O'Reilly leave the Avalanche, eventually.
