The Washington Capitals didn't qualify forward Brett Connolly, as he was set to go to restricted free agency, but they didn't have to, signing him to a new 2-year, $3 million deal, foregoing any sort of controversy about his contract status.
The 25-year old had 15 goals and 23 points in 66 games last season with the Capitals, setting a new career-high in goals, but was still a couple points short of some more personal records. He did have some tough stretches this past season, as a healthy scratch, but a good second half of the season led to more playing time.
