Comrie Signs Extension

Another potential rental player was taken off the market, first thing on Tuesday morning. Mike Comrie (John B.) will remain an Islander for the rest of the season after signing a 1-year extension worth $4 million.

The Islanders are only 2 points out of the playoffs going into Tuesday night's action and they obviously felt that they are still in the hunt for the playoffs. You could also speculate that teams were not offering enough players who are available to help the team now, so why not protect him for another season.

Comrie has 45 points (18G, 27A) in 63 games so far this season, a half decent prospect in your hockey pool and a decent player for the Islanders this season. He has earned himself a raise on the Island from the original $3.375 million he signed for in the summer to the $4 million he will earn next season.

The Islanders have plenty of room to move under the cap, having 13 players under contract for next season at roughly $28.5 million.
