Devils Cut to 23

The Devils are loading up their blueline to protect their number one guy in the crease, according to their 23-man roster. The Devils did one big bulk cut session, moving 31 players from their training camp roster to the minors and they have decided to keep eight defensemen on their roster.

The Devils have somewhat of a familiar look to their forward line-up, with a few new faces to help them out. Scoring shouldn't be too much of an issue, which is good news for Jersey and for poolies looking to the Swamp for some help. Zach Parise and Brian Rolston will get the duty of leading the offensive charge, which has a good supporting cast. When you look down the list of forwards, you should be confident that forwards 1 through 7 should be good pool players this season. With the depth at forward and down the middle, Bobby Holik may not get the opportunity to see a lot of key offensive situations. You may want to discount his fantasy value.

The Devils are in very good shape again financially, as they are sitting at a mere $53 million against the cap and as far as I can tell, they still have to offically sign rookie Petr Vrana to a new deal, which they have until Friday to do. Expect that to be done right away. You should expect the Devils to be in good shape come the trade deadline and they'll have the cap space to make a key move for a good rental player.
