Blackhawks Place Crawford on IR Again

The Chicago Blackhawks will open their post-Christmas schedule with Corey Crawford, as the team surprisingly placed him on the Injured Reserve on Wednesday morning, with no details about the injury right away.

The Blackhawks open their post-Christmas schedule against the Canucks on Thursday night, so there is an extra day in between this placement on the IR, but that also gives call-up Jeff Glass some extra time to work too, as they needed the roster spot for the call-up.

Chicago last played on Saturday, the 23rd, where Crawford was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 7 shots in the first 13+ minutes of the game and one may have assumed that was just a mercy pull.

If this is indeed a minor injury, where he needed an extra day or two off, Crawford would be eligible to return for Sunday's contest in Calgary, assuming the retroactive placement to the 23rd, missing two games, including Friday night's game in Edmonton.

This looks like two confirmed missed starts for Jeremy's team this week and that not only hurts his 3rd place standing in the overall totals, 12 points back of 1st and only 1 point clear of 4th, but it also hurts his chances in the goalie survivor pool, where he is one of three pool teams left to go.  This takes his projected games down to just Cory Schneider's involvement, which isn't a bad guy to leave it with, but you never know what could happen!
