Goalie Announcements (Dec 27)
The shortened Week Thirteen gets started tonight and we're only an hour away from puck drop on this new week. Three teams still remain in the goalie survivor pool and we do have some of that action in tonight's schedule, which currently has 11 games on it.
Looking down the schedule, there are three games with survivor pool potential, especially with back-to-back situations for teams, tonight and tomorrow, so if a pool team doesn't get a start from tonight's game, there is a fine chance they will be making that up with a game on Thursday night.
Let's see how the schedule looks and we'll go from there!
Jimmy Howard (Dale C.) versus Cory Schneider (Jeremy)
Cory Schneider was in the "starter's net" for the Devils' morning skate on Wednesday, which is usually a very good sign that he will get the nod tonight. The Devils are not on back-to-back nights, which means their workhorse will likely get some extra work this week, as the number one guy... good news for Jeremy! At the other end, Jimmy Howard has been tabbed as the Red Wings starter again, as Dale C. can use some points here to close the gap on 3rd place Jeremy, which currently sits at 26 points at the start of play.
Philipp Grubauer (Grant) versus Ondrej Pavelec (N/A)
The Washington Capitals open up back-to-back nights on Broadway tonight, which means Grant will get two early chances in the mid-week restart of Week Thirteen, which is good news for his side. The Capitals are opting to give Philipp Grubauer the Rangers, leaving Braden Holtby for the Bruins at home on Thursday night. The Rangers are going with their non-pool backup goalie tonight, Ondrej Pavelec, so Grant may not need to worry nearly as much with this game or even tomorrow's game against the Bruins.
Malcolm Subban (Wilton) versus John Gibson (Tony)
The Vegas Golden Knights will also open back-to-back nights in California on Wednesday, meaning that Wilton should get at least one start out of the expansion side to keep his survival hopes alive. Tonight is Wilton's night! Malcolm Subban has been given the nod for the Golden Knights, but it will be a tough task tonight, as they are into the Honda Center tonight to take on the Ducks. The home team tonight will be going with their number one tonight, John Gibson, who will be trying to get Tony's team back up into the top 10, which isn't out of reach, by any means, sitting only 9 points out.
