Van Ryn Hangs Them Up

A little further to a blog post at the end of June, Maple Leafs injured defenseman, Mike Van Ryn, has indeed hung up his skates and will elect to put on the suit and tie for an assistant coaching position in the OHL. Van Ryn declared himself unfit for the 2010/'11 season about a month ago, but since opportunity has knocked on his door, he decided to take the job with the Niagra Ice Dogs.

Van Ryn played in 353 NHL games between St. Louis, Florida and Toronto in his career, scoring 30 goals and adding 99 assists. His career-high in points topped out at 37, twice... once in 2004 and the other in 2006. Unfortunately, an injury to his left knee was declared serious enough to have him retire this Summer.
