Injury Updates (Sep 23)

As the preseason wears on, the amount of knocks, both small and large, start to pile up a bit and it will be roster players who pick them up as well. On the weekend, Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg picked up a small lower-body issue and he is now listed as out day-to-day. Doesn't sound very serious, but it could limit his ice-time leading up to opening night.

Silfverberg was taken 270th overall, in the 12th round, of the hockey pool draft on Saturday by Stacey M..  He was acquired by the Ducks from the Senators in the same deal that sent Bobby Ryan the other way.

Sounds like the Flames will have spot available in their last few preseason games, so they can audition whoever is left in camp a little more. Mike Cammalleri is reportedly dealing with a hand issue, which is developing into a possible problem for the Flames to start the season.  The early reports are that he is skating, but he cannot hold his stick properly.  Although there is nothing official, it isn't sounding too positive at the moment.

Cammalleri was a 7th round pick for Leo M. in the draft this year.

The Carolina Hurricanes offered up a quick injury update to a few players, a couple of which are in the pool.  Alex Semin is dealing with a minor upper-body injury, while Tuomo Ruutu is dealing with a lower-body issue.  Neither are expected to miss any regular season time, but their time spent in the line-up for the last few preseason games will likely be limited.

Semin was the 4th round pick for Leo, who isn't doing well in this update post, while Benson G. has Ruutu this season.  Benson took Ruutu in the 13th round, which could end up being one of the best bargains in the pool this year.

The word on the street is that Minnesota Wild forward Mikael Granlund has suffered a "slight upper-body injury" on the weekend and his availability for another preseason game will be determined on a day-to-day basis. Again, doesn't sound like anything serious, but just worth noting, in case it all goes South.

Scott G. picked up Granlund late, in the 13th round, 301st overall, so there is definitely the thought of sleeper pick here and for good reason.  Granlund has plenty of upside to him and if he can start the season healthy, he could make some real noise.
