Islanders Re-Sign Thomas Hickey

The New York Islanders re-signed defenseman Thomas Hickey on Sunday, even though he did make it to unrestricted free agency, the Islanders came back to him with a 4-year, $10 million deal to stay on with the club.

The 29-year old played in 69 games with the Islanders last season, picking up 5 goals and 25 points, ranking him 73rd among all blueliners in scoring.

This signing was certainly necessary, if the Islanders were going to try and keep up appearances next season.  Their blueline does feature a solid trio of players, including Hickey, Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy, which should keep this team afloat for a little while, but after those three, it does become a bit of a scramble.  I would be looking to the Islanders to make some more moves, especially on the blueline, before training camp opens in September.
