The Edmonton Oilers took a big hit to their line-up, as forward Sam Gagner suffered a broken jaw on Saturday night against the Canucks and the reports are saying that the jaw was broken in two places and that Gagner will likely need surgery to repair it in the next day or two. Gagner is now listed as out indefinitely.
Last season, Gagner finished 55th overall in pool scoring, picking up 14 goals and 24 assists in all 48 games for Edmonton. That ranked him 37th among all forwards, so that will be a pretty big hole for the Oilers to fill early on this season.
Gagner was taken 60th overall, in the 3rd round, by pool newcomer, Doug K.. There is no indication of when Gagner would likely be ready to come back or when he would be able to skate again, likely with a cage on his helmet to protect his jaw. In all likelihood, it will be a few weeks, at the very least, so Doug has some early thoughts of possibly dropping his 3rd round pick.
