On Monday afternoon, news broke that the Maple Leafs and Mason Raymond came to an agreement, a 1-year deal, worth $1 million. Raymond has spent the last couple of weeks in Maple Leafs training camp and has done well in both scrimmages and preseason games, enough to warrant a 1-year deal.
Raymond is projected to slot in to the Leafs line-up between the second and third lines, adding some extra speed and some experience to the line-up.
In the 2013 season with Vancouver, Raymond scored 10 goals and added 12 assists in 46 game, ranking him 198th overall in pool scoring, 143rd among forwards.
This is good news for Allan S., who ended up with Raymond on his team for the coming season. Raymond was a bit of a wild card at Saturday's draft, but Wes, who was picking Allan's team, was pretty sure that Raymond would sign and be a good pick-up. Raymond was taken 290th overall in the 13th round. A very low-risk forward pick.
I figure Raymond should be good for about 35 points in a third line role for the Leafs. I think that kind of return would make the late round pick somewhat of a bargain.
