There were some rocky waters out there for Dan Cleary, as training camps opened up across the league. It looked like he was going to end up in Philadelphia, as his return to Detroit looked to be in jeopardy, likely due to how close to the cap ceiling they were going in.
As of Wednesday, it sounded like he was going to report to Philadelphia... and then it wasn't... and early Thursday morning, the reports were in, he was on his way to Traverse City to join the Red Wings in camp, thanks to a 1-year deal, worth $1.75 million.
Cleary, 34, produced a little bit for the Red Wings last season, scoring 9 goals and adding 6 assists in 48 games, which worked out to be a scoring rate of 0.31 points per game and that's very borderline around the really deep pools for forwards.
Currently, I have Cleary projected in at 25 points, which optimistically takes into account the likelihood of his ice-time and where he plays in the line-up. He may find himself losing out to some younger talent in the end, so his participation is in question.
