The Ducks are being extra-cautious with one of their superstars, Corey Perry, who suffered an upper-body injury during practice yesterday. The early reports were that Perry suffered an arm injury after taking a slash in some battle drills. Right now, the team is calling this day-to-day with an upper-body injury and that he will be held out of some preseason action to make sure he's 100% for opening night.
Perry was taken in the 2nd round (47th overall) in Saturday's hockey pool draft by Allan, who has amassed a pretty solid team for the 2014 season. Perry will be front and centre on that squad, as they vie for a share of that sweet, sweet prize money.
The Calgary Flames had some media availability on Tuesday, where the team updated everyone on the status of a number of things, including the injuries to both Mike Cammalleri and Jiri Hudler.
Cammalleri was reported to be dealing with a hand injury, but the team does expect him to be good for opening night next week. There were some fears that he wouldn't be ready, but it is sounding much better with today's news. Hudler is also expected to be ready to go for opening night, as he is dealing with some minor knocks. What wasn't indicated, however, was whether or not they would play any more preseason games.
Cammalleri was a 7th round pick for Leo and Hudler was a 9th round pick for Ryan M., as the Flames were not very popular players in the pool this year. Expectations are kept really low in Cowtown.
The Avalanche, much as they should be, are being very cautious with Nathan MacKinnon, as he is now not expected to dress in the team's preseason tilt against the Stars at home tonight. He is, however, expected to dress on Thursday, when the Avalanche plays the second half of a home-and-home with the Stars in Dallas.
MacKinnon has been dealing with some hip issues, which were caught in the opening of camp at the physicals and the team has been keeping a very close eye on him. MacKinnon is still expected to start the season with the big club.
The 2013 1st overall pick in the Entry Draft was taken 108th, in the 5th round, by Doug. Doug is big on his youth this season and he must be expecting some pretty big things from the headliner from the Summer's draft.
It sounds like Jaromir Jagr is getting closer and closer to a regular season debut, as the veteran is dealing with some back muscle issues, leading up to the year. Jagr took to the ice today for the first time in days and the team is now penciling him in to play a preseason game on Thursday, home to the Flyers.
The Devils are going to try and get him some preseason action, but the less and less action that he gets, the less and less well the outlook to his season becomes, in my opinion.
Jagr was also a 5th round pick in last Saturday's draft, as Chris took a gamble on him in a very talent-laden round. Jagr is still listed as out day-to-day, so there is no potential games lost yet in the early standings.
The Philadelphia Flyers received some good news on Tuesday, as their captain, Claude Giroux, has been cleared to play tonight in a preseason game
against the New Jersey Devils.
Giroux had to undergo surgery to repair a sliced tendon in one of his fingers in a golfing incident at a charity tournament. Giroux was scheduled to be good to go for opening night, but now that he is ready to go early, there is a much better chance that his timing will be better for game one.
This is also very good news for Clayton, who took Giroux with his 1st round pick, 18th overall, on Saturday. Giroux is looking to have a bit of a bounce back campaign, after somewhat of a sub-par 2013.
