Top Prospect Signings (Aug 5)
The Detroit Red Wings got their top pick from this summer's entry draft all signed up, as they inked centre Michael Rasmussen to his entry-level deal on Saturday.
Rasmussen was described by many scouts as a big body with a great net-front presence and hands that could make the most of his opportunities. Playing down the middle, already with an NHL-sized frame, it could open up some immediate opportunities for Rasmussen out of camp, especially since the Red Wings are pretty thin in the prospect cupboards.
If an entry-level kid like Rasmussen makes the jump, the salary cap numbers would certainly be tighter than ever before, almost to the point where they would probably have to start the season with a 22-man roster. We'll see how the kid fares in camp, but he is definitely one to watch.
