Evening Fringe Signings (Jul 2)

An injury-plagued season cost Sven Baertschi a solid 2018, in terms of his scoring, as he wasn't able to work his way into the hockey pool conversation, but that didn't stop the Canucks from re-signing the restricted free agent on the weekend.  Baertschi signed a 3-year, $10 million deal with the club and will then look towards improving upon his season, where he scored 14 goals and 29 points in only 53 games.  He wasn't too far out of the conversation, but will this new deal be enough for him to get picked in the draft this fall?

The Anaheim Ducks made a number of signings on Monday, keeping the NHL office fax machine busy, and in those signings included forward Brian Gibbons, who was a fringe player in New Jersey last season. Gibbons signed a 1-year deal, worth $1 million, after he posted a season total of 12 goals and 26 points in 59 games. Those are some decent numbers that translate well, if it was over an 82-game season. The Ducks needed some cost effective depth and they may have found some here with Gibbons.
