Fringe Signings (Jul 10)

The New York Islanders added some European talent to their upcoming 2019 roster, signing veteran Czech forward Jan Kovar to a 1-year, $2 million deal.  The 28-year old escapes the grasp of the entry-level deal, foregoing any rookie status and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the deal.

Kovar played with Magnitogorsk in the KHL last season, picking up 35 points in 54 games, including 7 goals.  He was also a part of the Czech Republic Olympic team in PyeongChang, featuring in the Olympic hockey pool on Dale C.'s team.

Islanders management seems to believe that he can be a top nine forward on the team next season and with the departures already having gone from their roster this summer, there is certainly a very good chance of it.  He could be one to watch in training camp.
