Robin Lehner Off to the Island

The New York Islanders have been the busiest of all the 31 teams in the league on Tuesday, making a trade for Matt Martin in a non-pool related deal and then signing unrestricted free agent goaltender Robin Lehner to a new 1-year deal as well.  The Islanders are scrambling to put an identity together and that means they'll need to throw some money at some players to get it done.

Lehner's contract will be worth $1.5 million for the coming season, adding to this rag-tag group of players on the roster.  He'll pair up with Thomas Greiss to be the goaltending tandem on the island, as of right now, maybe not quite the tandem that would give their fans a great deal of confidence.

In 53 appearances with the Sabres last season, Lehner won 14 games and posted 34 points, ranking 39th among all goalies in hockey pool scoring.  The early speculation would say to me that he's going in as the number two guy, but the door is going to be left open for him, if he wants to make a solid push for the number one job.
