Fringe Signings (Jul 15)
One of the emerging young players in the Montreal Canadiens system is forward Phillip Danault and he wasn't too far off the pace for the hockey pool conversation last season, ranking 253rd among all forwards in scoring with 8 goals and 25 points in 52 games last season. Danault was a restricted free agent, up until Sunday, when he signed a 3-year, $9.25 million deal, locking him in for the foreseeable future.
The 25-year old should feature in the middle-six of the team's lineup in the coming season, more than likely as the 3rd line centre, but with the team in as much flux as it is right now, it couldn't be surprising if he was bumped up to the 2nd line from time to time, making him into a depth asset.
