Filppula to Miss a Week

The Red Wings are expecting to be without forward Valtteri Filppula for the rest of the week, including Wednesday night's game against the Predators, which has already gotten started by the time I'm posting this.  Filppula was hurt in the game against the Rangers earlier on in the week and the MRI results showed a minor sprain in his knee, so some much needed rest and they'll likely re-evalutate his status after the weekend.

Going into Wednesday night's action, Filppula was ranked 146th in pool scoring with 31 points (12 goals and 19 assists) in 50 games, on pace to set some new career highs, so it'll come as a disappointment that he'll miss at least a week of action.

ImplicationsA week's worth of action shouldn't hurt Jani K. too badly in the stretch drive, as it should only work out to a few games, but with the way other teams have been moving around him, it is important to keep as many healthy bodies on the ice as possible.  Going into the evening's action, Jani was tied for 13th spot, 5 points back of 12th and 10 points up on 15th.
