Volchenkov Blindsides Boychuk, Gets 3 Games

A pool-related suspension dropped down on Wednesday morning, as Anton Volchenkov was handed a 3-game sentence for his elbow on Hurricanes forward Zach Boychuk.  Volchenkov will be eligible to return to action for the Devils on February 18th against the Rangers.

Well, there was little doubt about this one, as Volchenkov clearly gets Boychuk squarely in the jaw, very much in the blindside.  This hit is one of the more cut-and-dry Rule 48 infractions we've seen this season and it was a very poor decision by Volchenkov to catch Boychuk that way.  I would be surprised if Boychuk has to sit at least a week with some kind of head injury or even just for precautionary measures.
