Bruins Out, Caps Play On

It was a pretty impressive run by the Bruins to take the Canadiens to seven games, but by the end of the game last night, the true comparison of talent was made and the Habs came out with flying colours.

Of course, all of those who took three Canadiens were probably pleased to see it go seven games, as it did mean a few more points along the way. It's sure nice to pad those numbers.

Only 15 selections were lost from picking some Bruins, a smattering of players here and there. Some teams ended up taking two Bruins a piece, but nothing more than that. It wasn't like anyone in their right mind were picking the Bruins to come out of that series alive... except for maybe the Bruins themselves.

The question may also be posed, 'could the Bruins have won the series if Zdeno Chara (Box 20) was healthy?' Apparently, Chara played the whole series with a torn labrum in his shoulder. He will likely require surgery now that it is the off-season, but would likely be okay for the start of training camp next season.

It was a good effort by those Bruins... they should be proud.

Onwards then...

PhotobucketTime for the Game Winning Goal scorers of the evening and it should be a short one, thanks to only having two games on the schedule last night. In Montreal, the shutout was on, so it was Mike Komisarek's (Box 23) opening goal that stood up as the winner to eliminate the Bruins. While in Philadelphia, no one could stop the O-train in the third period, as Alexander Ovechkin (Box 13) scored his second game-winner of the playoffs to beat the Flyers and send the series to a clutch seventh game, which goes tonight.

So, now we come to the evening of Game Sevens. First up, at 5pm MT on TSN, the Capitals will look to take three straight from the Flyers at home at the Verizon Center. The Capitals have started to score and find their niche against this strong Philadelphia team.

For Philadelphia, they will have to go back to shutting down the scoring Russians, like they did in the first four games of the series. Unfortunately, they will be without Mike Knuble (Box 16) who suffered a torn hamstring in Game 5 and was notably missing last night in Game 6.

The late game on CBC tonight will see the Flames take on the Sharks to either meet Detroit or Dallas, respectively. The momentum has apparently shifted Flames' way in the series after the 2-0 win in Calgary, but the momentum really didn't mean much to San Jose when after they lost that big lead in Game 3. San Jose managed to snake back two games when they fell down terribly. This game will also take place in the Shark Tank, but home-ice advantage hasn't been as clutch as you would have thought. Should be a good game tonight.
