After a solid shoulder-shoulder check from the Kings' Dustin Brown on Tuesday night, David Legwand left the game with an upper-body injury, not to return and was not able to dress for the club on Wednesday night, as they took on the Anaheim Ducks. The Predators didn't seem to miss him too much, as they came out of Anaheim with a 4-2 win, but there is some real concern for their number one centre, but until the word becomes official on his injury, it could be a little much to speculate at the moment.
This could certainly be a big blow to the Predators, despite their win on Wednesday without him. In 14 games this season, Legwand already has 5 goals and 9 assists, working at a point-per-game pace, ranking 32nd in pool scoring, as of Thursday morning. Not only is Legwand playing well in the offensive end this season, he is known as a good two-way centre, which is key to the system of the Predators, which relies heavily on the defense-first motto.
Well, without knowing too much about how long Legwand is going to be out of the line-up, missing out on a point-per-game player will certainly have its disadvantages. Allan S. has been able to cash in some early successes with Legwand in the line-up, climbing up to the top end of the standings with the Predators scoring centre. As of Thursday morning, Allan sits in 4th spot, 3 points out of 3rd and 17 points out of 1st place. These are two spots that with one good week, Allan could be back in the fight for, but if this loss is significant, then I would expect a drop.
Stay tuned for an update, when it is available.
