The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday afternoon that they have come to terms with their top pick in the 2016 entry draft, defenseman Olli Juolevi, to his 3-year entry-level deal. Juolevi was the top defenseman taken in the draft, taken 5th overall and the Canucks are hoping that they have a cornerstone piece to their franchise rebuild/retool.The 18-year old is hopeful of making the NHL right out of junior, but the number of young defensemen that jump from the junior ranks to the pros and make an impact have been few and far between, but if there is a lineup that it can happen in, it could be Vancouver's.
Expect to see Juolevi at this September's Young Stars Classic, playing against some of the other top prospects in the Northwest quadrant of the NHL.
