On Monday, the Nashville Predators saved goaltender Carter Hutton from heading to unrestricted free agency, signing him to a new 2-year deal, which has a cap hit of $725,000 per season. Hutton took most of the reps in the Nashville net when Pekka Rinne went down with his hip infection and ended up having a decent season, finishing with 43 pool points on 20 wins, ranking him 25th among goalies.
It should be fair to assert that Hutton is the front-runner for the back-up job behind Rinne in the 2015 season, which means he could be a good late round pick-up in the hockey pool draft, assuming we find ourselves with a deep draft again next season.
The New Jersey Devils announced on Tuesday that they re-signed veteran defenseman Marek Zidlicky to a new 1-year contract extension, keeping the 37-year old Slovakian blueliner in the fold for another season.
Zidlicky played in 81 games for the Devils in the 2014 season, scoring 12 goals and 30 assists, which ranked him 21st among all defenders in the year. That should give him a little bit more than a single mention in the upcoming Pool Outlook for the Devils, coming closer to the Entry Draft, as they will be picking 30th this season, no matter what.
