Bernier Heads to Denver

The Colorado Avalanche lost Calvin Pickard to the Vegas Golden Knights at the expansion draft, so they were definitely in need of a new goalie and they have themselves a back-up, possible new starter in Jonathan Bernier. Bernier signed a 1-year deal, reportedly worth $2.75 million and he should battle for the number one job with Semyon Varlamov.

The 28-year old looked very good in Anaheim in the 2017 season, winning 21 games and collecting 46 points, but he wasn't going to be the number one with John Gibson there.

With Varlamov's well-documented injury problems, Bernier is going to a situation where his number could get called at any time and he could certainly push for that top spot on the depth chart.  I think there is some value to him in Colorado, now if the Avalanche can put a team in front, then he'll be good for some real points.
