Top Prospect Signing (Jul 20)
We can now check off the 10th overall pick in June's draft as being signed, as the Florida Panthers inked forward Owen Tippett to his entry-level deal on Wednesday, maxing out his salary and providing a bonus structure that could see him paid as much as $4.975 million, when it is all said and done.
The book on this kid is that he is a goal-scorer, considered to have one of the better shots in this draft class and he already has NHL-ready size, which may expedite his arrival into the big leagues, assuming he can sort out some of his short-comings, like his overall work ethic.
The Panthers have lots of bubble players on their roster that could go up or down at the start of the season, so there should be plenty of opportunity for a kid like Tippett to make the team out of camp, but that will be up to him.
