Afternoon Training Camp Notes (Sep 13)
Reports are surfacing out of New Jersey that Cory Schneider may not be ready for the start of the regular season after his hip surgery back in May. Schneider has been on the ice working out, but the team is already ruling him out of preseason action and with the Devils starting the season overseas, there might be a chance that he stays back at home to work on the hip.
If Schneider isn't quite ready, this could be Keith Kinkaid's time to shine again, like he did in the second half of last season. I would say with this new bit of news, I would slide Schneider's projected number down and Kinkaid's up, moving him above Schneider even.
The Hurricanes will be without forward Victor Rask for an indefinite period of time after a kitchen accident at home forced the 25-year old Swede to undergo surgery on his hand, repairing a couple of fingers. There's no word on how long exactly the team expects him to be out, but it sounds like he'll be missing training camp and most of the preseason, if not all of it.
I had Rask in as a 40-point player heading into camp, but with the injury, I would probably not proceed with any consideration for him at the draft in a couple of weeks. Stay healthy at the start of the season, unless you know he's going to be back and ready to roll close to the start of the season.
