Things in Arizona were supposed to be looking up at the early part of this 2019 season, but we haven't even made it to the opening of the regular season and the Coyotes have been decimated down the middle. Alex Galchenyuk has a lower-body injury and won't be fully evaluated until sometime next week, still thought to be day-to-day though. Dylan Strome is dealing with an upper-body injury and is currently day-to-day with his ailment. 2018 1st round pick Barrett Hayton is now going through the concussion protocol and is also somewhat day-to-day at the moment. Those are three important young players who are going to man the middle of the ice for the Coyotes and none of them appear to be ready to rock and roll quite yet.
Mike Green's 2019 season is also getting off to a very poor start, as he has been diagnosed with a viral infection, which is attacking his liver. He'll be seeing a specialist very soon to help with the diagnosis and likely his treatment as well, but one would have to believe that he is now considered out indefinitely, at least until the team and player have a better handle on what they are dealing with.
This situation, likely to extend into the regular season, will likely put the Red Wings well into their LTIR relief this season, especially if they want to keep a full 23-man roster. It will open up a spot for someone, like a Dennis Cholowski, to make the team out of camp.
Michal Neuvirth was supposed to get the start for the Flyers tonight with the Islanders as their opponent in Allentown, PA, but he suffered a groin injury in the morning skate and was deemed unable to play and is now listed as out day-to-day. We probably won't hear more about the injury or his status until sometime on Saturday, especially if there are any long-term implications.
The Flyers and their goaltending situation is on shaky ground, with most of the goalies on the roster either hurt or coming off of some sort of major injury the season before. Minor league goalie Alex Lyon also went down for four weeks with a lower-body injury of his own this week.
You can add Tyler Bozak's name to the list of St. Louis Blues who are going through training camp with some extra pains, bumps and/or bruises. Bozak was held out of practice on Friday, due to a groin problem, but there was no indication that the injury is very severe or that he is expected to miss any time in the regular season.
Bozak joins Jake Allen, David Perron and Robby Fabbri on the shelf, all of which are limping their way towards the regular season and there might be a cause for concern, if they're not all 100% to start the year.
