An injury update came for Calgary Flames forward Alex Tanguay, as his undisclosed injury has turned into an upper-body injury and he has been downgraded from day-to-day to week-to-week and has not accompanied the team on their current road trip, which they have embarked on after the Christmas break.
The Flames open up their road trip tonight with a game in Columbus and will have five more games remaining on this trip. I would imagine that Tanguay will be re-evaluated after the road trip, giving him plenty of time to rest, but it could be fair to assume that this could be concussion-related.
This just piles on the crap for Darren S. in the pool this year, as he had the worst team in the first segment and is currently sitting at the bottom of the second segment, although he has some company in the sub-60 points category that he currently sits in.
It sounds as though the Detroit Red Wings will be without forward Tomas Holmstrom for about week, maybe a little bit more, after he suffered a groin injury on Monday night against the Nashville Predators. The team has announced that he will be missing at least tonight's game against the St. Louis Blues with a lower-body injury, but there are a number of sources online that are claiming it is a groin injury, which could cost him a week to 10 days.
The Red Wings have called up Joakim Andersson to fill in for the time being, starting with tonight's game and Holmstrom will likely be re-evaluated closer to the weekend.
Munden G. has not had a great start to his second segment, albeit, it he's on pace to do a bit better than his first segment, which may not actually suggest a great deal of positives. Munden sits in a tie for 18th spot, losing the first tie-break, and is 11 points back of 16th at the moment. An injury won't help his cause here.
A spot of tendinitis in the ankle kept Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney out of Monday night's return to action against the Canucks and he is currently listed as out day-to-day. This is apparently the ankle that was surgically repaired over the last year or so and it has not gotten back to 100% at all and this will likely count as a significant setback for his game. He'll be listed as out day-to-day for now, but I haven't seen a timetable for his return.
This is bad news for Chris M., who is in 16th spot, a spot that Munden is thinking about chasing down at the moment, but Chris hasn't seen a lot of Whitney this year and even when he was healthy, he wasn't doing much for him. Missing out on him going forward isn't too significant, but it certainly won't help Chris down the stretch here.
An upper-body injury has claimed Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal, as he was unable to play on Monday night against the Kings. There is no word on the extent or the type of injury that he has suffered, but the team is saying that he is day-to-day for the moment. I don't think there is too much more to say, until the team reports anything further, we'll just wait for an update to come down the pipe shortly.
Not good news for Ryan M. in the draft, but it could be worse... and it does get worse (check out the new post after this one), so his gains in the pool since the waiver draft may have gone for naught, as injuries are starting to pile up for him. It'll be a lot of wait-and-see for right now, but with Ryan sitting in 14th, you know he had eyes on the top 10.
