Well, that has to be disappointing. There's disappointment when your hockey pool players get hurt in a game situation, but it is a whole different kettle of fish, when your players get hurt in practice.
Toronto forward Joffrey Lupul found his way back on the shelf this week, as he stepped on a stick on the ice and fell awkwardly, breaking a bone in his hand. He was able to finish practice, but he had his hand looked at afterwards and an X-ray revealed the broken bone, according to some reports on Twitter. He is likely out of action for a few weeks, in the 2-to-3 range, at the very least.
As a card-carrying member of my Injury Prone List since 2010, this should come as no surprise to many that he is hurt again. This will be going in next year's report, for sure.
In nine games this season with the Leafs, Lupul only has 2 goals and 1 assist, which is well down from regular expectations. Friday night against Columbus was the first game that he missed with the injury and through last night's action, Lupul is ranked 310th overall in pool scoring.
The injury has now stricken Lupul's projected games from Brenda & Seward's totals for the rest of the week, which leaves them with 16 projected games remaining. They are going to need all the help they can get, since they only sit 1 point out of the pool basement after Friday's action and they have less games to be played than Stacey C., who now occupies the basement. Brenda & Seward do appear to be fairly safe, when it comes to the Basement Dweller mention on the Newsletter, as they are 7 points clear of the nod, going into Saturday's action.
