It continues to be a strange situation on the Ottawa blueline, which continues to see a rotation of bodies and Patrick Wiercioch is among those sitting out on a semi-regular basis. On Tuesday night, it was consecutive games out of the line-up, as he wasn't tabbed to play against the Canucks, in a 4-3 loss.
I don't think that Wiercioch would make a huge difference to Dale C.'s overall standing, as the 23-point gap between himself and 2nd place wouldn't be made up by the young defender's possible points in the games that he's missed, but it would have likely whittled it down. Still, Dale sits in 3rd place, 7 points up on 4th.
The San Jose Sharks placed back-up goalie Alex Stalock on the Injured Reserve on Wednesday with a lower-body injury, but until he sees some more doctors and has some tests done, the team won't know how long they will be without him. The only thing that can be said for sure is that Stalock will miss the next week's worth of action, thanks to his placement on the IR, but it sounds like the team expects more time missed.
Scott hasn't had much from Stalock this season, only 6 points points through the first five weeks of the year. His goaltending otherwise, Tampa's Ben Bishop, has been keeping that statistic afloat for him, but his team has only been hovering around 14th & 15th in the last few weeks of the season.
The illness that has sidelined Ducks forward Corey Perry isn't getting any better any time soon. The Ducks have reported that Perry and teammate defenseman Francois Beauchemin have been banned from the team until they've cleared through some of the hoops of this illness and that Perry has undergone some IV treatments at the hospital, to help speed up the process. Perry was placed on the IR on the weekend, which was his 1-week anniversary of the illness, so he is eligible to come off when he's healthy.
Every day off is a considerable loss for Dale C., who is dealing with blueline problems already, but Perry is a point-per-game player, who has the ability to put up all kinds of points. Dale seems to be hanging in 3rd place just fine, but as soon as he starts to lose ground, there will certainly start to be some worry, if Perry isn't back.
