All of the signs that popped up after the Detroit/New York game earlier in the week were pointing to something more serious, as the Red Wings were quick to point out that they were going to call-up goaltender Petr Mrazek to fill in for their injured starter that night, Jonas Gustavsson.
Indeed, that is definitely the case, as the Red Wings announced on Friday evening that they expect to be without the 30-year old Swede for the next two months, as he deals with a separated shoulder. This will most certainly carry through to the Waiver Draft, which pretty well renders the keeper useless for the early season race for the first segment trophy.
Gustavsson had only made three appearances this season, playing in 184 minutes, winning one game with a shutout for 4 points. The appearance numbers shouldn't come as a big surprise, as he was coming into the 2015 season as second fiddle to Jimmy Howard, but he was going to see some minutes throughout the year, assuming he was healthy.
In terms of goaltending, Tony, who has Gustavsson, has not seen many minutes this year, as his team (646 MIN) is well-below average (922) in minutes played by his keepers. This has led to only 5 wins, which is near the bottom of the ranks, and only 12 points (pool average is 18.7). Tony has seen some positives from the other two positions in the pool, which has kept him in the conversation, going into Saturday in 11th place, 2 points out of 10th and 14 points out of the money.
