The age of Jamie Benn will last for a long time in Dallas, as the minted superstar has signed an 8-year, $76 million contract extension, which will now see him play in the "Big D" through the 2025 season.
It must have been a pretty good gift to the team's top player, as they announced that he had undergone surgery to repair an injury this week. Benn was eligible to sign his contract extension, as of July 1st, since he was starting the final year of his current deal. His new deal and his new $9.5 million cap hit, won't take effect until the 2018 season, but the number certainly gives the team something to work around.
The Stars have a good portion of their core already signed on for the 2018 season, already 10 NHL regulars have contracts through that season, so if all goes well this coming year, they're built and ready to go right away the next year.
