The Dallas Stars announced on Friday that their superstar forward Jamie Benn had undergone successful surgery to repair a core muscle injury and his recovery will be in the 6-week range. Six weeks would put the recovery at the end of August/beginning of September and it will be there, that the team will decide what his participation will be like for the World Cup of Hockey tournament, which will go in the month of September.
Among all forwards on Canada's entry to the World Cup, Benn had the most points in the 2016 regular season and if healthy, will undoubtedly go in the opening round of the World Cup of Hockey pool draft I will be having later on in the Summer. Canada wouldn't be short on replacements for Benn, if needed, but you could understand the disappointment of losing a forward that is firing on all cylinders in his career.
