Kings Sign Purcell

One of the free agents that slipped through the cracks on me was Teddy Purcell, who completed a 3-year contract extension that he signed with the Lightning in 2013, but finished with the Panthers. He went to unrestricted free agency on Friday and was gobbled up by the Los Angeles Kings, signing him to a 1-year, $1.6 million deal, adding depth to their forward lines.

The 30-year old forward didn't have a bad year between Edmonton and Florida, but quietly went about his business and didn't get a lot of fan fare in the process.  In 76 games, he scored 14 goals and 43 points, good enough to be 118th among all forwards, putting him in the middle of the pack for scoring.

Purcell has certainly made the rounds in the NHL, but they have come full circle, back to Los Angeles, where he first signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007.

I wouldn't expect a huge jump in production, moving to Los Angeles, as they haven't quite been known for their regular season or playoff offense, but he should be able to contribute at a worthy pace, regardless.  Initially, I am thinking the 35-point range for the veteran forward.
