Top Prospect Signing (Jul 7)

The Calgary Flames just completed their development camp for the Summer and to no one's surprise, they put pen to paper with their top pick in June's entry draft, the 6th overall pick, forward Matthew Tkachuk.

Tkachuk will be vying for a roster spot with the Flames in the 2017 season, thanks to his 3-year entry-level deal, but it won't necessarily be a sure thing this Fall, but he will give it a good go.  The kid has the size and the offensive instincts of a power forward, which will make him attractive to his employers, but he'll have to jump over some reasonable competition to get there and not be sent back to junior.

I don't think anyone would be surprised if he was one of the last cuts, if he doesn't get the 9-game tryout before losing his slide privileges in his entry-level deal.  Do tread carefully with this one, if you have no ability to move players right away in your pool.
