Top Prospect Signing (Jul 2)
The Montreal Canadiens were the second team to put a pen to paper with their top 2016 draft pick, the 9th overall pick, defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. Sergachev will have a $925,000 cap hit for the coming season, assuming he plays in the NHL, and will have a good deal of bonuses as well.
Unless the depth is really tested at training camp, it doesn't seem very likely that the 18-year old will make the jump up to the NHL, but he will certainly get a long look. Given his age, the entry-level slide rule will certainly come into play here.
