The Senators have announced that they will not have Daniel Alfredsson, Sergei Gonchar or Erik Karlsson in their line-up for the remainder of the regular season, which goes until the end of this week. Alfredsson has been sidelined with a back ailment since February and it has not healed to a point where he would be comfortable enough to return to the line-up. Gonchar has been out indefinitely with a concussion and there is not going to be any rush to get him back into the line-up, getting him ready for a Summer of rehab, hoping to get back to 100% for training camp. As for Karlsson, he suffered a thigh laceration last week and I would have assumed he would have made it back for a little bit more action before the end of the year, but the team has obviously quashed any thought of that.
For Alfredsson and Gonchar, I would have to assume that Neil and Peter, respectively, were almost assuming that they would not have their players back before the end of the year, while Larry was likely a bit more hopeful that he would get Karlsson back and aid him in trying to not fall any further down in the standings. This won't be the case and now Larry only has one active defenseman left on his roster.
