The Islanders were so impressed with their summer signing of Doug Weight, that they are looking forward to seeing him back on the island for the 2009/'10 season. The team re-signed the veteran pivot to another 1-year deal, but no financial terms were disclosed.
Despite missing a substantial amount of time due to injury this season, Weight still managed to score at a very reasonable click. In 49 games this season, Weight has 9 goals and 26 assists, which actually has him third in team scoring (talk about depth, eh?).
Weight's current deals sees him have a salary cap hit of $4.3 million, which is fairly big for a 38-year old veteran, but the Islanders are well below any cap concerns this year, dressing a squad most nights that barely even make the cap floor. If the new deal he signed is worth anything close to his 2009 deal, the Islanders should be okay for the floor next season.
