The Phoenix Coyotes saved another potential unrestricted free agent from the open market by signing Taylor Pyatt to a new 2-year deal on Monday afternoon. Salary details were not provided at the time of the initial release, but I am safely assuming that he would have earned a raise (even if it's just a slight one) from his $600,000 deal he signed last September.
In 2010, Pyatt scored 12 goals and added 11 assists in 74 games in his first season with Phoenix, which gave him a slight boost in the scoring ranks, finishing 241st among all forwards in the league. He won't be a high priority for many poolies, but he was deemed valuable to the team in their first playoff run in many years. I don't expect his role to change significantly in the 2011 season and also expect about the same sort of output rate going forward.
