The buyout period opened up in the NHL on Tuesday and it all kicked off with one of the most obvious targets of being cut loose. Georges Laraque was given his walking papers (in principle) during the season, as he was asked not to return to the club. His tenure has now been officially been ended a year early on his 3-year deal, which he signed two years ago.
While in Montreal, Laraque only managed to play in 61 games over two seasons, scoring 1 goal and adding 4 assists. Even as an enforcer, Laraque only had 89 PIM in the two seasons, which doesn't help too many poolies, if their pool actually counts them for points.
The buyout turns a $1.5 million cap hit in 2011 into a $500,000 cap hit in both 2011 and 2012.
