Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson gave an update on his fractured finger on Friday, saying that he hasn't regained full motion in his middle finger on his left hand, which he had surgery to repair a torn tendon. Ericsson missed the last 14 games of the season and the team's short stint in the playoffs after surgery, but does plan to be ready for camp, despite not quite being 100%.
Originally, I did have Ericsson projected to have somewhat of a breakout season and be completely pool worthy, but I am now having second thoughts, contemplating dropping him down a bracket, possibly down to the 20-point range, under 25 points. With the questionable depth on the blueline, this really could have been his year, but if he isn't feeling 100%, confidence may not be very high.
There was one update on Friday about New Jersey Devils forward Ryane Clowe, who suffered a concussion in March and hasn't been cleared for any contact since the injury. Clowe is to see concussion specialists before training camp opens for the Devils in a week's time, but he has been skating in the informal practices, leading up to camp.
Last season with the Devils, Clowe scored 7 goals and 26 points in 43 games and projections have not been kind to him this Summer, as both myself and the Hockey News have him in the mid-30 point range for the year. That would make him into more of a fringe player, assuming he doesn't find the same form that made him into a household name among poolies in San Jose.
